What is Dietetics? And what does a Dietitian do?
Dietetics is the science of nutrition for humans in both health and disease practiced by Dietitians, they are experts in food and nutrition. They have the expertise to help manage diets and guide people on how to live healthily, especially those affected by health conditions such as diabetes, overweight or obesity, cancer, heart disease, and more.
Managing your diet is one of the major components of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, along with exercise. Losing weight and gaining strength is important to people as they age, so they can continue to move properly and do the things they love, as well as help prevent or manage illnesses.
What services can I expect a Dietitian to provide?
A dietitian assesses the health and nutritional needs of a person in order to help them manage any medical conditions they have. They provide tailored diet plans to meet those needs. As experts in the science of nutrition, they can offer information and education on conditions such as diabetes and the corresponding dietary management, as well as the role of a carefully managed diet in helping people with cardiovascular disease.
When should I seek out a Dietitian?
If you need help managing diabetes, high blood pressure, or other chronic diseases that are affected by or affect your diet, or if you have digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, celiac disease, or other allergies, you may be referred to a specialist by your GP or by one of us at Promitto.
